Haven't played in a few days. Needed to get out there even though it was raining and my shoulders have been concerning me since after play on Wednesday in Oxford. Both very sore and tender. Was consumed by watching Ryder Cup all morning, so didn't get up there till late. Cart path only due to the wet conditions, so decided to walk the back nine.
Started with a decent drive, probably better than 90% of the drives I hit in Oxford last week. Another good one on 11, then another good one with 3W off the 12th tee. GIR pars on 10 and 11, but a 3-putt on 12 led to double. Bounced back with bird on 13. More good drives on 13, 14, 16 and 18. Basically, all drives were good today. Where was all this in Oxford?
Problems with the par 3s killed the round. Came up short on 15 and plugged in the bunker, up against the lip. Caught lip from the 1/2 buried lie. Ended in double. Then on par 3 17th, caught ball with hybrid way out on the toe trying to draw the ball. Pushed it short right leaving me a very difficult sidehill lie, sitting way down in the rough actually on the dirt. Was difficult to get down to the ball. Tried to come in steeply on the back of the ball and it squirted out and over the green. Another double.
Drizzled the entire round, keeping everything wet. Greens were slower as a result.
Need to start walking more.
