Wow. Beware of the injured golfer! Damn. I am really hitting the ball well off my one good leg.
45* to start. Still not ready to play the front yet. Will wait until after seeing doctor next week. Actually started on the 14th as two groups of slow playing Asians went off of 10 just after I got to the course. Wide open in front of them. Hit 10 balls on the range and jumped to 14.
Started with a very good drive on 14, as long as any I hit all summer. This new-again swing element has been missing for a couple years. Sucks to finally re-discover it now, as the sun sets on the year. The one bad thing is that it really seems to aggravate my surgically repaired left shoulder. Icing it now.
In any case, that lead-off drive left me 80 yards out. I then proceeded to nearly sink my approach for eagle. 2 inches short. Another 1/2 roll and it's in. Tap in birdies aren't so bad though. Great start.
Another awesome drive on 16 left me a normal 8 iron out. With the cold, I hit 7i to 13 feet. On 18th, another great drive, one of my best of the year on that hole and the tees were back on the blue tee box. Can not believe how well I am driving the ball these last two 1/2 rounds. Somehow, I have to bottle this up so I can continue it next season. Gotta be a 20-yard average increase once the warm weather comes back. Now, if only my left shoulder can hang in there without re-tearing.
Really felt good out there today, though was well aware of my calf injury and took precautions as necessary. On one drive in particular, I ended up totally hopping on my front foot after coming through the ball, to protect the bad calf, and I still hit it really well. Again today, I drew the ball off the driver, or hit it dead straight. I even over-drew a couple. There was not one drive that even had a hint of fade. Gotta somehow keep it up, through the winter and into next season.
Actually hooked drive on 13---very rare for me---only bad drive of the day, but still happy it was a right to left miss instead of left to right.
3-putt on 11 hurt a little. Sand wedge approach hit close to pin but rolled down slope of green to about 25 feet from pin. Left me with a real tricky break. Didn't get my lag within 8 feet. Other than that, putted better than average. Greens are not as slow as they look.
Cold air moving in for the next week. Probably good for my leg, but not for ingraining this rediscovered driver swing into my subconscious.
Thought about going to play a few holes out front after finishing the back nine, but didn't want to take too many chances with the bad leg, so instead played 14, 15, and 16 over for a total of 12 holes today.
