Cold (41*), overcast, some wind, wet and muddy. Played with Chris (CeeBee). Started on back. Good start, par, par, bogey. Nice 9i on 15th to about 4 feet and a bird. Duffed a short pitch on 16 (pissed me off), but chipped it close and got up and down to save bogey. Par on 17. On par 5 18th, put second shot in fairway bunker with the help of the left to right wind. Should have been an easy 8 iron out of the bunker to pin, but caught the lip and rolled 10 yards out of bunker. Made good contact, just didn't get it over the lip. Then hit what felt like a perfect PW into the wind and landed on the green, but well short. Three putt double.
Out front, played okay. Birdie on 4th came from surprising approach shot. Played a 5 iron with the ball below my feet from the side of a mound. Caught it a little out on the toe and really didn't think it would make the green. It not only made the green but rolled all the way through to an uphill back pin, stopping three feet away.
Screwed up the par 3 6th. Hit a low liner 6 iron off the tee into large bunker left and well short of the green. Got pissed and hit another before leaving the tee just to satisfy myself. Hit it near perfect, 3 feet from pin. Though it didn't count, I tapped it in for what could have been a birdie, but instead ended in double with the ball that counted.
Then on 7th, hit a terrible drive way right, over near the first hole cart path. Long way in. Ball was sitting up so played a 3W, but it still came up short. Left me with a pitch over the bunker which I hit perfectly and then sunk the putt to save par. On par 3 uphill 8th, didn't quite get on the green. Then my chip was well short leaving a tricky slider. Played a little too much pace and flew by the hole by about 6 feet leaving another slider from the other direction. Luckily, made that one to save a bogey.
Then on par 5 9th, drive landed in right bunker. Got out, and down the fairway some, but still left me a long way to the green. Hit a hybrid a little longer than I expected and though it stayed on the green, rolled out to the worst spot possible, leaving me a nearly impossible putt to get close, let alone in. Putt was not bad, but rolled down the slope 20 feet past the pin, which was expected. 2 more putts totaled 3 and a bogey finish.
Shoulder held up most of the day. The shot on the last hole from the bunker didn't feel too nice on it. Icing now.
Enjoyed playing with Chris again.
CeeBee says:that putt on 9 was as nasty as can be. The best putters on tour would have three putted that.
