Really nice day. Played with Will. We started on the 7th hole today to get around two fivesomes.
Led off with a birdie on 7th after putting approach shot to 1'. Then backed it up with another birdie on 8. Thought this was going to be my day.
Then on 9th, tried something with my driver I did not practice. Popped it up as a result. Par 5, no prob. A good 5W put me a simple wedge out, but was just a touch left of fairway. Didn't think the tree on the left would be a problem, but caught the very top right of it with my PW approach and it didn't clear the hazard as a result. Decided to try to hit it from the deep grass of the hazard and caught it much cleaner than expected with my LW, sending in high up on the hill over the green. 4th shot got me onto the green, but there was no way to stop it on the steep back to front green. 2 putt from there.
More trouble on 10th after trying to do the same move I tried on 9 with driver and the result was the same, a short pop up. Had to hit hybrid from there and just avoided the water hazard. It settled inside the hazard, but was able to make a pitch on it and 2 putt for bogey.
On 11, hit 5 iron again. Seems like the best play, with the tees up, leaving me a 3/4 Lob Wedge in. 3rd round in a row I hit 5i and 3rd one in a row I had 3/4 lob wedge in.
On 13th did the exact same thing I did the last two times I hit driver, a pop up. Then realized what I had been doing wrong and hit all drives after that very well. My 2nd shot, with 3w caught the back of a fairway bunker and fell in. Then was close enough to the lip that 8 iron was my only choice to have a chance to get over it. Hit a good one, but still had 150 to the pin. Hit my 6 iron from there, 180 yards. Never expected that kind of contact from the rough. Ball ended up off the back of the green. Chip and two-putt for a double. That one hurt.
Played pretty well from there on out.Reached the tough 3rd with a 5W approach, that roll off the back of the green. Okay chip, but still two-putted for bogey.
Struck irons well again, all round. Hit some real good drives, once I straightened out the pop up issue.
The better I hit the ball, the worse my left shoulder felt. Icing now.
CeeBee says:Nicely done. Two birds!!!
