Started out cold. Warmed up to about 60 degrees, but breeze was at least a club, at times two. Played with Will and Joey.
Had a good round, but it really should have been even better. A few poor shots and two 3-putts, neither of which were all that hard or far from the hole, and a birdie putt on 7th that literally did a 360 inside the hole, then popped out an inch away, all contributed to ruining one of my best rounds ever.
Considering the front is tougher than the back, and when I play well I can usually shoot in the high 30s on the back, shooting even par on the front really had me thinking I had a good chance to really go low. It was not to be.
After an even par front, I started the back off with a very good drive, but got my approach a little up in the wind and came up short, hitting one of the boulders alongside the water hazard, bouncing high into the air, hitting just to the right of the green, but rolling down into the water. Had to take a penalty. However, got up and down with a great chip to 2 feet and 1-putt to make a really good bogey. I then came back on 11th with a bounce back birdie. Was starting to look like today was my day.
Then came up to the tough 12th. Hit a good drive. Wind was blowing pretty hard in my face for the approach and just missed center face contact. Got it way out on the toe, but cleared all the crap. Unfortunately I was well right of the green. Had 55 yards to the pin and hit a full 58* into the wind. It came up maybe15 feet short, and with lots of spin stopped right on a dime. Had a realistic par saving putt, but misread the speed on the sandy green and blew it 6 feet past. Missed the comebacker and ended up with a 3-putt double.
Had realistic birdie putts inside 10 feet on 13 and 14, but settled for par on both. Then on the par 3 15th hit 8i to back pin and yanked it a touch. Hit green, but well left of pin. My second 3-putt on the back and a bogey. Another on 16th after great drive into wind, then 6i approach, also yanked, just left of green. Had a chip I should have gotten much closer. Hit my landing spot as planned, but ball just kept rolling out to about 10 feet past. I guess I misjudged where I should have landed it. Another bogey. Fought hard on the final two holes to par both.
Disappointing 40 on the back. Played better than that. Hit 72% of GIR.
