Another nice day. 80s and sunny. Played with two singles. One good, one not so much.
I started out okay, but went downhill as the round went on. Got quite sloppy on the back. Driver was not as strong as it has been, however, on one particularly weak drive that went way right, the worst drive of the day, I hit a 5W approach to 6 feet and made the putt for birdie. Go figure.
Did not feel that comfortable over the ball. Tempo and rhythm were a tick off. Maybe I have been playing too much. Actually had a decent front. Played well enough to shoot high 30s, but had a couple miscues I don't normally make. On 9th, had a good drive, but had to layup even so. Had 173 to the junk. Hit a nice easy 7i and drew it a bit more than I expected. It ended left of the fairway, somewhat behind a tree limb. Only had 85 yards to pin, but the overhanging tree limb required a lower launch. I tried to keep it low with a 54 degree wedge, but got it a bit too low and rolled off the back of the green. Chipped to 3 feet and missed the easy par-saver. Though it was only one stroke, it could have been a 39 instead of 40, and a much better mindset going to the back.
Hit a decent drive, not great, on 10. Pin was back and did not want to chance the water right of the green, so set up a little left with a 7i, one less club than normal from that distance so that I purposely would not go over the green. Hit the green, one bounce and into the back bunker, leaving me a tough downhill lie, with water opposite me just over the green. Of course, I got all of it and sent it into the water. Penalty drop, chip to 6 feet and 1-putt for double. Poor start to the back on such an easy hole, then on 11, an even easier hole, I had a simple 50* wedge approach. Now, Ive been hitting my irons and wedges really good lately. Don't know what I did, but somehow I hit it kinda low and right, into right greenside bunker. 58,P,P for bogey.
Had a chance to save par on the tough 12th, but pitchip came up 30 feet short of pin, then made a whimpy-assed putt that did not get to within 6 feet of the hole. 3-putt double. By this time I was livid. Somehow I made par on 13, birdie on 14 and par on 15. On 16th made GIR, but another 3-putt ruined my attitude again. Just got sloppy for the finishing holes. Came up short with 5W on par 3 17th, which was playing 200 yards. Poor chip to 15 feet. 2 putts for bogey. Then on 18 drive too far right, thin 3W left me 180 out. Then another thin 5W to 5 yards short of left side of green. Poor chip and 2 putt for another bogey. Was not a good performance on the back. Acceptable on the front.
