Went up to play but the course was mobbed. On top of public play, there was an Asian outing, so could not get out until 6:30 tonight.
Decided to walk the back after working on some things on the range from about 5:00. Tried a new move that was working very well on the range, throughout the bag. Really started making great contact across the board, so decided to play the blue tees after 3 or 4 rounds from the whites the past couple weeks. When I went off the 10th tee, I incorporated the new move into my tee shot and hit one of the best shots I have hit with driver in weeks. Went about 245 yards, uphill, dead center fairway. Had a PW in and landed it 1 foot from the hole, but it didn't stick and rolled out to about 10 feet past. 2 putt. But happy with the drive and approach.
Then on the next hole hit another perfect drive, about 245 as well, leaving me 98 yards from the pin. Hit a 50 degree wedge to 4 feet and this time made the birdie putt.
On the tough 12th, hit ANOTHER great drive about 245, leaving me 6i in. Hit a good one, but it just caught the rough left of the green. Chip was okay, but missed the par saving putt. Still, very happy with the way I was hitting the ball, so was fine with bogey. Drive wasn't as good on 13th, but in the fairway, still 235 off the tee. First mistake came with 3W, which I yanked well left of fairway, in deep rough close to 15th green. Had a blind shot in over some 20 foot tall bushes. Though I was only 145 out, took a 6 iron due to the heavy rough, figuring the rough would slow down the swing speed. It did. Came up short in the bunker left of the green. Made a good bunker shot to about 6 feet, but missed the putt and made another bogey.
Then on 14th, hit another awesome drive from the blue tees over the left bunker by 20 yards. Must have been close to 275 yards! The tees were back and that hole is listed as 340 from the blues. Had a 65-yard lob shot in. Another good opportunity for bird, only 15 feet from pin. Missed it, but good par.
On par 3 15th, had 165 to the pin. Hit 6 iron pin high, but it had a little draw which bounced left and off green. Chip was about 6 feet long and missed that par saver too.
On long par 4, 16th, another fantastic drive, left me 150 out, again, in the center of the fairway. Had to be at least a 250-yard drive. Hit a perfect shot in, right at the pin, but it trickled just off the back. Chipped to 1 foot and saved par.
My only double bogey came on 17, par 3 playing 190 today. Actually hit a very nice 5W, pin high, but it bounced left into back bunker. Got it out, but didn't get any spin on it and it rolled 40 feet downhill past the pin. 3-putted from there.
Finally, on the par 5 18th, hit a very good drive, albeit not as perfect as some of the others today. Still fairway center. Then a great 3W, PW to 15 feet, and 2-putt par.
Very excited about the way I was hitting the ball today. Very consistent with driver and all other clubs. Wrist pronation really worked for not only good distance, but helped with making pure contact. Drew many shots. Didn't lose a single shot right. All drives were not just fairway, but most were center fairway...and longer than normal. Most iron approach shots were on target. Hit about 75-100 balls on the range with this more pronated wrist set and it paid off on the course. Have to get that more ingrained, but pulled it off all day using it as my primary swing thought.
Productive range session and 9 holes. Happy camper now.
