Quite warm and kinda humid. High 80s. Played with the recently retired Libyan Ambassador who was quite a nice guy. He can no longer go back to Libya and be safe due to all the unrest there, so he has gotten asylum from the US Government and can stay here indefinitely...or until Trump finds him. Rimshot.
Joey played the front nine with us, which slowed us down quite a bit. I played blue tees. Joey and Ali played whites.
I played fairly well. Hit the first four fairways which put me on a good path. Irons were pretty good. Short game good too. Putting not bad either, but a 3 putt on 9th kept me from a respectable 39.
The blue tees on all the par 3s, again, were set up on the black tee boxes. Shortest of all par 3s played 185, uphill, on the 8th. Hit 3W to the back of the green. Hit 5W into pot bunker on par 3 6th, playing 195. Parred both. The white tees were set up at 130 yards on the 6th, 65 yards less than the blues.
Did not play the back nine par 3s as well. The already challenging 17th was playing 232 yards to a back pin, adding even more difficulty. 232 yards! Hit a poor 3W, well short. By comparison, the white tees were at 150 yards on 17th, 82 yards less. On 15th, the white tees were 80 yards shorter. Ridiculous. Getting very tired of hitting 5W and 3W into every par 3. It's been at least 5 or 6 rounds in a row, if not more since the blue tees were on the blue tee box.
Chipped in on 14th for birdie after having a flyer lie 50* wedge approach shot, going long and off the back of the green.
Had a terrible drive on par 5 13th, my worst in a long time. Sliced it big time. Haven't sliced anything that bad in months. Then to compound things, I tried to hit a 3W out of a very buried lie in thick rough. I said out loud to Ali before I set up to the ball with the 3W in my hands "This is not a good idea. I should really be playing an iron to have a real chance to get this out, but what the heck..." Turns out I was right, I should have played an iron. Barely moved it 30 yards, and did not even make it out of the rough. However, had a real good chance to save par after a decent 3W from there in the rough, then a 50* wedge to 8 feet. Just missed the par saving putt and settled for a bogey...which I honestly can't be upset with after that drive and poor 3W attempt from the rough.
Nice finish on 18th with a GIR par. Decent round overall.
DougEly says:They're trying to give the regular blue and white tee boxes a few weeks to heal. They were both pretty beat up from all the play they regularly get. The way it's set up now, the blues are playing 6700-6800 yards and the whites are playing about 5400. One is too long, the other too short. The par 3s are really my biggest complaint. I can deal with the extra distance of the par 4s and 5s.

CeeBee says:Very nice. Why won't they put those tees where they should be?
