Rough day at the office.
Another very humid day. Played with Bernie. Did not play all that poorly, but was having trouble with the greens today as they have not been cut since Saturday and were kind of bumpy and slow. Got in my head.
Had good drives to start, but missed the green on 1 and 2 resulting in bogies. Got up and down after laying up to 80 yards on 3rd. Choked down 2 inches and hit 54* to 3 feet. One of the better holes I played today, in spite of the fact that it is the Number 1 handicap.
Went through a period on the back where my swing got a bit sloppy, starting on 10th. Hit a decent drive, but right of fairway bunker in rough and a little bit questionable lie. Had 147, over the water to pin. Went with 7i in case I was short, but of course hit it well. Over the green to the back cabbage. Flopped on, but quite short and 2-putted for double. Parred 11th, but came up 3 feet short of green with what felt like a perfect 9i. Chipped to a foot.
The big problem started after, again, what seemed like a real good drive. Surprised to find out it was much shorter than expected. Had 210 to pin and chunked a 3W into the crap. Penalty Double. I was a little off with the 3W all day. However, dropped another after the duff into the shit for the hell of it and flushed it. Didn't count.
On 13th, hit a good drive which just kept going, into the left fairway bunker, close to the lip. Went with 5i. Mistake. Hit lip and came back into bunker. Got out with another 5i, then hit 6i to 9 feet. Putt was online, but those damn slow greens got me. Stopped 3 inches short of the hole. Bogey.
On the 14th, almost missed my ball off the tee. Topped it. Maybe 100 yards out in rough, with no way to get a 3W over the tree between me and the green, nor a lie which would allow me to hit a draw around the tree. Layed up with 7i to 60 yards, then a 58 pitch to 4 feet to save par after that humiliating drive.
On 16th hit a good drive a bit left. Thought it had enough to get over the pine trees, but caught the top of the last one and dropped directly under that tree, leaving me 200+ out in the rough with an uncomfortable lie below my feet. Had no business trying to hit a fairway wood, but tried anyway. Topped it up onto the back of the 13th black tee ground, still 140 out. Hit a good 8i to 4 feet and saved par. Then proceeded to blow the 17th after getting lucky with my hybrid off the tee, hitting a tree and bouncing into a playable position 65 yards from pin. Decent pitch, then a friggin 3-putt for double from 16 feet.
Finished up with a GIR par on 18th, one of only a few today. Not a good day.
CeeBee says:One of those days. Had one myself the other day.
