Played with Bernie, Will and Joey. Started out in the low 50s, but pretty windy. Temps eventually got up to 60s, but wind played havoc on us all day. They wanted to play white tees and I didn't think it was a bad idea in that wind.
Driver a bit erratic. Missed both left and right. Pull draws left and pushes right. No slices. Tried all day to figure it out. Started off with a good drive on first, baby draw into the middle of the fairway. Longest in the foursome.
Got in trouble off the tee on 2nd with huge pull-hook into hazard area. Re-teed a second ball and almost hooked it into bunker but got lucky and it cleared, rolling out another 50 yards, but playable and only 80 yards out. Able to get on and down in 2 putts to save double with a "mulli-par."
On third I hit a great drive, again longest in the group. Had to go for green. Only had 170 to pin, but up the hill and into a pretty hefty breeze. Pulled out my trusty 3W, figuring I needed at least a 200 yard shot or more to get to the center. I have hit the 3W so well lately. I think the wind got in my head and I just hit a poor chunk, probably trying to overpower it. The good news was it didn't even make the hazard and I ended up 80 yards out, kinda like when I lay up most times anyway. Hit my third on and two putted for a bogey, my typical score most of the time anyhow on that hole. So not too upset, except with the fact that I chunked one of my best clubs in the bag.
On 4th, another good drive and longest in the group, left me an easy 8 iron to the pin, but I pulled the approach and ended up left of the bunker up on the high mound. Nice flop from there, over the bunker, but missed the par saving putt. Started to put my game together after that, but still a few sloppy shots.
5i on tough uphill par 3 8th, into some wind, right at pin. Only one of us to hit the green. 10 feet short of pin. Good birdie op, but 2 putted for par.(Will hit 7W off the tee, missed right, chunked his chip barely onto the green, then
hit a 60 foot putt, over the ridge, down the hill and into the cup for the MOST unlikely par of the day! No one was more surprised than Will.)
Not a great drive on par 5, 9th, but a 7i layup to the end of the fairway, left me 87y out. Sand wedge and 2-putts for par.
GIR par on 10, then on 11, made poor contact on easy 50* wedge approach and sent the ball way over green. Ended in bogey.
Had a great drive on 13---best of the round, a good 40-50 yards longer than the next longest in the group---a bullet over the left fairway bunkers, giving me a shot at the green in two, but came up just short with 210 yard 3W. Landed in the left greenside bunker, but it jumped out. Yea! Eagle chip didn't roll out as expected from the rough. Then 2 putts for par.
On 18th hit a 9i approach into a good cross wind and came up short in the left pot bunker. Made a good shot out, but not enough spin to stop it before it rolled off the other side of the green. Good chip just missed going in. 1 putt bogey.
Overall, not a bad round, but should have been a few strokes better.
