Played late, after the crowds. 60 degrees, sunny and the wind finally allowed for play from the blue tees.
Drove the ball well again today, but missed a lot of fairway. Only by a little. Only one bad pull on 16th caught trees on left and fell into deep cabbage. Found it and dug it out with a 5 iron, but didn't make it to the fairway. Then still had 158 to the pin. Hit a 7 iron on the front of the green, but coming out of rough, no spin to slow it down. Went right through the green and a couple yards off the back. Chipped to 4 feet and 1 putted for a good bogey from a terrible drive and lie. I had hit a provisional assuming I wouldn't find the first one, which turned out to be one of my best drives of the day. Surprisingly found the first one, but only about 120 yards off the tee, way left, in foot high cabbage. Good thing it was a high-optic yellow AVX, which by the way I have now played without losing for at least 4 rounds straight.
Irons were solid today. Thinking about putting a 4i back in the bag, now that I have such a big gap between the new 818H 19* hybrid and my 5i. I hit enough good 5 irons lately to suggest that I will be able to hit a 4 iron well too. Rather that than another hybrid.
Really need new wedges. Hitting them crisp and where I am aiming, but am noticing more and more that I am definitely not getting the check I used to get. And the check I need now that the greens are speeding up. They are also pretty firm, exacerbating the issue. It was okay over the winter, but I need more stopping power now.
Pain level not as bad as expected after round. Maybe I can play again tomorrow.
