We started on #12 (Shotgun). Course was set-up much shorter (6,000 yards).
Fairways firm. Rough not long but very thick and the ball would settle down. Getting a club head on the ball was tough. Greens were very firm, lightning fast and extremely smooth. Best conditioned greens I have seen in a long time. The pin placements were often tough.
I was losing drives to the right again but managed to play around it until I straightened out a bit down the stretch. Lots of guys complained bitterly about the speed of the greens, firmness and pin positions. I managed to 1-2 putt every hole so I had no issues but I will say some of the 2-putts were very tough. I came so close on several but settled for a single birdie from a 3-foot putt.
My ball striking again was shaky and I really had to work to keep the score down. Finished T3 "Net" and T7 "Gross" out of 26 players in the "A" flight so I was happy with my grinding.
My big disappointment was #7. It was playing about 326 and I finally hit a drive on the nose, leaving me 60 yards to the center of the green. I tried to get too fancy and left myself off the green in a chipping area. The first attempt rolled back to my feet. Next was on the green and 2 putts gave me a double instead of a birdie chance. Sigh. A stupid par would have gotten me to "79" and solo 2nd place "Net".
