Hit the ball well today. Felt good. Putts didn't drop for birdies, but putted well for pars. Wind was about a club to a club and a half all day. Blue tees are a test here at Presidio for sure. Lot's of trouble lurks.
Highlights / Lowlights:
Hole 5: Tugged my approach into the tall grass. Took a penalty drop, then got up and down for the bogey.
Hole 6: Laid the sod on the approach after a beautiful drive. Didn't get up and down.
Hole 7: Hole played 230 today. Just drilled a 4 wood to the middle of the green. Give me a bucket of balls and I wouldn't do any better. Contact addict was so pleased. Struggled to 2 putt, but I managed, for the par.
Hole 12: Hole played like 490 directly against the wind today. A bogey is a par on this beast of a hole.
Hole 13: Epic middle fairway tree is cut down. Hole plays a lot easier when you can see your target. Made the par against the wind.
Hole 16: Center cut drive. I had 147 up the hill with the wind. I played for 157 but I came up 1 yard short into the bunker. 1 more yard and it was going to be birdie time. Oh well. Should have clubbed up.
I was against the lip and buried and had to hit a shot straight up in the air over a 2 feet bunker lip. I had to basically hit a flop 85 degrees up in the air and since I was under the lip AND buried, I thought it was next to an impossible shot. I told my playing partners that I had a better chance of winning the lottery than getting that ball out. Well, I should have bought a lotto ticket cause I pancaked the face, kept the handle low, and hit the hell out of that shot. Ball popped straight up in the air and landed right on top of the bunker face. That may have been the shot of my year. Holy crap I couldn't believe that ball came out. Chipped up and made bogey.
Hole 18: Big center cut drive. Perfect approach from 227 out. Ball was tracking all the way to the hole, but it took a slope and barely trickled into the left bunker, pin high. After I hit my approach, I thought I Tiger Wood's president's cupped it next to the hole for the eagle. Oh well, but damm if a shot ever felt perfect, that was it. It certainly was Tiger Wood's twirl worthy. Sand save putt for the bird burned the high edge.
A round in the 70's from the blues at Presidio is always a good score for me. I was satisfied today.
