Sorry to hear of your recent struggles. Surely, it's temporary. Take a break, go watch the Masters and start fresh sometime next week, or later. Go back to basics, and/or get help from someone you trust. As you have said to me in the past, we've all been there before.
Time for a change of pace. That usually does the trick. You are pressing, now. You don't just lose it overnight unless there is an injury. Right now, it seems you are on a very low wave of your golf-algorithm, but they are constantly changing. Things will come back.

Why bogey on the last four? If you didn't play them you are supposed to take a gross score equal to net par for any unplayed holes (provided you played a minimum of 14). In that case, your last four unplayed holes would work out to par, par, bogey, bogey, with a 10 course-handicap, no? Has that changed since we moved to the 2020 World Handicap System? I know that's the way it was last year before we switched to the WHS.

Just realized my original score was wrong. So I edited it to correct it. I birdied 15th with a 7 iron to 6 feet and a nice breaker, dead center. Had a par marked on card. When I looked at the stats I only saw one birdie, yet I knew I had two.

You're a tougher man than I. Never got above freezing here. I decided to wait another day. And I will surely be putting on the cart cover and lighting up the propane cart heater, likely for any other future rounds for the next week.

Very Nice Brian. And didn't this just back up a 74 at Hudson Mills? See, you still have it in you. And I still aspire to have your game. I'm working on it. Been working on it since I started keeping tabs on you at Oob, 10 or so years ago. You had, have and always will have my golf respect. I don't just throw that around to anyone. It has to be earned. And you did so early on. Congrats. Keep up the good work.

How the hell are you a 10? More like a 4. 10s don't shoot low 70s every other day. Somethin' ain't computing in my head. What's the slope on those tees? Either way, nice shootin'.
Posted a Comment on Your Score: on 04/02/2019 at 8:38pm
How the hell do you keep shooting all these 70s scores and your handicap rises? Doesn't make sense. What the hell is the slope rating you're playing? If I shot as many great scores at Worthington as you do at Jonathan's Landing (and others up there), I'd have a 1 or 2 index. I just don't get how you shoot so many 70s and have an 11.2 cap. Doesn't compute.
I shot like an 81, 82, 80 and a 79 from the blues tees since posting season began and somehow my handicap dropped a tenth. Officially at 5.8 as of yesterday's update.
I checked out the Grint and signed up. Not really a fan but the only way to stay current with you guys. Don’t want to enter scores on both sites but may for awhile. Hate to basically start over with over 1100 rounds recorded in SG.
Remember how Oob tallied up all the eagles, birds and pars? Does any site do that? Damn I miss Oob!
No more posting on Skygolf I assume. Grint better? Can you transfer rounds over? I miss Oob. Remember when it showed eagles, birdies and pars over all rounds played?

"Back late next month, hopefully, for some better golf"... AFTER RESTING MY BODY FOR SEVERAL WEEKS!! ;)
Decent round despite the marginal conditions. No doubles, no "6's" and in the 70's. Two thumbs up.
Thanks for the kind words and I will be sure to post a few words on LG in the next day or two.
We went north to scout out the locations for our annual State Open Amateur tournament.

They're trying to give the regular blue and white tee boxes a few weeks to heal. They were both pretty beat up from all the play they regularly get. The way it's set up now, the blues are playing 6700-6800 yards and the whites are playing about 5400. One is too long, the other too short. The par 3s are really my biggest complaint. I can deal with the extra distance of the par 4s and 5s.
Hole 3 is a just a tough hole. drive has to get some forward kick from right to left as you know. Still a rather long approach to an uphill green.
But 12 is miserable. I never seem to get it in the right spot for a relatively decent approach shot. Hell if you dropped out there at the end of the f/w it would still be tough to make 4 from there.

Nice shooting for both of you. Doug, if you haven't been counting, that is three days in a row with a bum shoulder. And God knows how many balls hit to "warm up." Moderation, young man, moderation.

Doug, I finally retired today. Went by there and saw an almost empty lot. Had to play.
The tees may be up but course is wet and the air is cold. It equals out I think. Gotta get it IN THE HOLE.

Nice back nine, even with the mess on #12. It is hard for me to play for bogey and a lot of my crash & burns are similar to #12. Take care of that shoulder. It is too darn cold and messy to be out playing golf. Take a break until February, even from hitting balls. Doctor's orders!

C'mon Doug, go for the End/Beginning of the year bookends. Play 12/31 and 1/1. You can do it! Ignore those aching shoulders and bad weather and limp on over to the club tomorrow and Sunday!! ;)

See no evidence of rain coming our way with the exception of a late afternoon pop-up thunderstorm. Forecast is for 97* today, humid and sun. 96, 94, 93....all week. Humid. First day under 90 looks like Sunday, forecast for 89. No rain.
Yes, thanks, not too bad from the blues, hopefully it won't translate to 89 from the whites next time I play. This game seems to work that way. Just when you think you are on a roll, the game will pull out your heart. Such a tease.
Posted a Comment on Your Score: on 07/25/2016 at 7:12am
After you got warmed up, that was some really nice playing from #5 onward. We are sending some rain your way. We played in it today. Sort of refreshing to not have it 90+ and humid.
Posted a Comment on Your Score: on 07/04/2016 at 8:39am
Hey, no doubles. When one plays a round with no doubles I figure that there was some decent play going on. No more than one poorly hit shot on any 1 hole. A little tighter play turns some of those bogies into pars. A slightly better putt makes a par into a birdie.

Desire is still low and pain level is high. I just want to make sure I get my money's worth out of the Titleist stuff I already paid for, so I am forcing myself to play!

Good to see you back in the game. 10 GIR should typically translate into a decent score so your diagnosis of putting problems is spot on. Fortunately that is an easier fix than the long game. Easy does it this weekend, no CeeBee-like 54 hole marathons.
Posted a Comment on Your Score: on 05/10/2016 at 7:39pm
I was wondering about when you might get back into action. Not too bad for only playing a couple nines in several weeks. I heard D.C. had measurable rain for 14 straight days. The state of Maryland isn't all that much different from D.C. geographically so the grass must be growing well.
The greens at Glade are in great shape. Oh by the way, the smell of cows--t is long gone. The ponds are full and if you saw it you would swear it wasn't the same course you played last month.
Don't get carried away by the last score I shot. It's been a struggle.
Mr. DougE - thanks for the comments. I must say, your successes at Worthington have inspired me. As we say in the Frozen Mitten, "If that f--king sailor can score well, we can too!" ;)
Poolesville G C is a public County owned course. Just re- opened for the season. Great shape for March. Will get better. In late spring, early summer. the greens are some of the truest and quickest around. Plenty of undulation is it's main defense.
The white tees play 6450, par 71. Long. I've played this track so much I could caddy here.
Posted a Comment on Your Score: on 03/09/2016 at 4:32pm
Ah yes, the smell of farm fresh air. Won't be like that in another month and the greens will quicken. The fairways will be smooth and mowed. But you can't beat their prices for some decent golf. Hole 14 is really getting narrow off the tee.

The one time my father and I played University Park, we both were amazingly good on the range. Every hit was on the sweet spot, long, far ... Then we arrived at the first tee and couldn't hit anything. It must be something about the range, it couldn't possibly be us.
Yeah I was down there last weekend. Had some time before the drive back so off I went. that course is about 6 miles from the house. I've played it a lot. The 10th is a beast. Takes two good shots and if I'm lucky a 6i in.
I'm ready when you are.
Tomorrow no good early so me and Charlie may go to P B Dye. Let's play it by ear for Sat, Sun afternoon. Find out which one and let me know. I'm good for that.
Posted a Comment on Your Score: on 12/30/2015 at 4:11pm
Very well done. The course is soaked so it feels like 6000 yards anyway. This is how I see it. I wouldn't fret over those so called 'cheapened' white tees too much. You get many chances with short irons all winter with virtually no healthy hazards. Those tees moved back to the proper spots this spring will be plenty of challenge. I sense you feel the need to feed the ego and attack from the blues. Hybrids and woods all day on approach shots don't get it done. My friend, that will suck quick next season.
When we hook up you will have to give me 2 a side. I may get over there tomorrow about noon. You up for it?

Not bad on a tough day. I give you credit though: if I'd have played from those tees today, I may not have broken 90. The way I'm swinging lately nothing in my bag will go 200 yards.
Posted a Comment on Your Score: on 12/17/2015 at 8:53pm
I hear you Doug but move up a tee at OG. Play it as close to 6000 as you can and u will be hitting into those greens with some shorter irons. That will even it out.
Next season will tell the story better. The environmental areas will fill out and the greens will run quicker. The white tees will be enough my friend.
Let's tee it up after Christmas. I have almost a week off.
Posted a Comment on Your Score: on 12/14/2015 at 3:39pm
I like it too. As I get older my drives get shorter. If I had to hit the long clubs into all the par 4's I would eventually stop playing. 6000 at WM in the summer is fine. I have played the Blues there in the past. Not much fun.
Posted a Comment on Your Score: on 12/14/2015 at 3:10pm
Hey, I like it. I understand your mild discomfort with playing a shortened course; I am the same way. Still, at the end of the day you have to hit the green and make the putts.

Nice round old man. P B Dye is in good shape but the fairways are just a tic below the conditions at WM. But still nice. Greens just as fast and undulated and if you miss can be a tough up and down. It is a challenge. My iron play needs some work but this once a week shit ain't helping.

Complaining about missing so many birdie putts ... that tells me someone is in the groove. Lately when one of my rare efforts actually goes in I am stunned.
Cart cover. Need I say more. We play our share of foul weather golf. It's great when the course is empty.
I have to get it when the getting is good. As I work with the asphalt laying crews, rain means no work. Half the golf I play is in, shall I say, less than mint conditions.
Good to meet you too. Today was a good day and like you said in your post yesterday, I still left a few out there. Damn.
Strokes? NONE.
Charlie and I may get over there tomorrow about 1:00. It's the time of year I can get out earlier in the day with some notice. You have my number, give me a call.

As for me, it is way off. As bad as my tee shots are I still am in play. Today my irons were abysmal. Missed from everywhere. Been a long time since I've put together so many bad swings. True hack. But still managed a couple birdies.
Too bad we didn't cross paths today. I teed off about 11:20. Short game was working today. The pin on 8 was back right. I was two feet off the fringe in the rough but directly behind it. Bumped it on and rolled straight to it.

Keep playing well through the winter so I have something to keep my spirits up. ;)

Glade Valley is a good track but it is not Worthington Manor. Greens are well kept and fairways mown. Leaves are a problem if you miss badly. However the price is right. Usually can catch a bargain on GolfNow.
Posted a Comment on Your Score: on 10/23/2015 at 9:32am
Playing at all different times. Usually after 11, sometimes teeing off around 1-2 pm, so far. I can play anytime on weekdays with my membership, and after 12 on weekends/holidays. If you came over at 4, you might get in 9, but the price drops at 3pm, so the course is usually busy after that.
I finished this round at 6:45 pm after teeing off at 2:10. It was literally dark. The moon was bright, but after hitting our approaches into 18, none of us had any idea where to look for them other than the feel off the club. Luckily, I found my 7 iron approach on the green. The other three guys weren't so lucky. One was in the front bunker, one was in the rough short of the green and the other was never found, even though it was hit on the screws according to the guy who hit it. Playing in the dark ain't fun.

But I stand ready to give it a go whenever you like.
Brian, yes, health okay as far as I know. Just haven't been taking the time to post scores. In fact, haven't really been tracking stats much at all. Nothing has changed. Same old, same old scores and percentages for the most part. I have been posting scores to my GHIN page, but scores only. No stats. When I get inspired, I'll start posting stats here again. Just not real focused right now, between business, moving and everything else going on as a result of our relocation to MD. But, thanks for asking.

All those tracks are in top shape. However I don't play them often as the prices are rather steep. If I lived a little closer to Frederick I would join Musket ridge. The most reasonable of the bunch and my favorite of the four you are most interested in.
Let me know when you are down and ready to try em out.
Noted you are planning to move to Maryland in the Baltimore/D.C. area. Nice. Should have a bit better weather in the winter. Time table for the change?

Take a look at Musket Ridge and Maryland National. Both are fine public courses with memberships. Myersville area above Frederick. Neither seem to be crowded. Played Musket several times last week. Tough layout from any tee. Membership about three grand.
Whiskey and Worthington are a challenge but pricey. Both get a lot of play.

We just had a deal on a place in Mt. Airy fall through. Went to contract, but inspection turned up too much major stuff. Expect I'll be in MD a number of times this summer trying out courses to consider for membership. Hoping we can find something in the Ijamsville area, as Worthington Manor is on my short list. Whiskey Creek is up there too, but they don't offer memberships as far as I know.

I hear you. Occasionally I go the route of just posting the score on oo...Skygolf...rather than hole by hole to avoid what you describe. Still, half an apple is better than none. It is good to know you can still put up a good number; we both just need to work on doing it more often now.

I don't like to jinx things. I should have never written any notes on the round, because, as expected, I COULD NOT back it up the next day (yesterday). Not even close. Woefully high score. What's worse, yesterday I started as good as the day before. I was already thinking 77 or 78 by the 4th hole if I keep playing with so much confidence. Jinxed it. Played like a 20 handicap the rest of the way. I still haven't been able to bring myself to enter the score on oob...I mean SkyGolf. I just don't want to re-live it, hole-by-hole, all over again. It was much easier to just post it to my GHIN. I don't have to do hole-by-hole scoring there. Just write down the bad score and move on....like pulling a stuck bandaid off. It only hurts for a second.

Wait a damn minute!! You shot a "79" and did not bother to post in the "Successes" forum under "Where Did You Play and What Did You Shoot?" I guess a sub-80 round is sort of routine for some players; personally I can't wait to talk about my good rounds but then that may just be me. Plus a multiple birdie round is hardly worth mentioning, right?
It is not bragging if you did it. Tell the world (okay, the SkyGolf360 world).
Did you post the score right away? Why did I miss this?

Welcome back to northern golf. Acquitted yourself quite nicely for the first time out. I hear you about the "not in walking golf" shape. Somehow shoveling snow doesn't translate well into walking 18.
Back to little Siberia (aka Connecticut). Decent showing in FL considering the tough scoring conditions and the 50+ day layoff. We are sending some decent weather eastward for the next 10 days. I fully intend to tee it up on March 14.

Thought it was a pretty good ball, but I am not convinced that it is as good as a Pro V1 yet. It may be, but I only compared it against an NXT Tour. It seemed to be at least equal to the NXT. Particularly around the greens. I spun both back with wedges and a nine hour about the same amount on some 120-85 yard full swing shots. On one hole, for the hell of it, I hit two drives off the same tee when I was playing as a single in one of the rounds. I hit both drives straight, and both seemed to be pretty close to the sweetspot, but I can't say for sure how perfect they were. They both felt good. The NXT was about 4 yards longer, which really means nothing on one drive. I'll have to compare them side by side, including my regular Pro V1, as my swing gets more grooved and the course conditions and temps get more summer-like.

Well almost 2 in a row. I had an 83 yesterday, and a 79 earlier in the week. So only two of the last three. However, with the season officially over from a GHIN perspective, none of these scores count towards my official handicap.
Cold out there today. Hoping for a few more playable days this month.

Softer compression ball, yes. Have not tried the women's balls though. I usually play a Titleist NXT Tour S or something similar. I also heat the balls before a round with either a heat lamp or I will wrap them in an electric heating pad, and store them in the insulated compartment in my bag to keep them warm for a while. Usually don't start that until temps in 40s. Stop playing when temps get down to the mid 30s usually. Then will try to plan a trip or two to FL.

I'm still shooting for 20-30 more rounds. Hoping we'll get lucky and have another year like last where the courses stay open into winter. I'm figuring on 2 or 3 more rounds this week, then 10 or so in Oct and another 10 or so in November and possibly a few in Dec. Even if I can't get as many as I'd like, I had a good year, quantity-wise. Already at 114 rounds this year. Can't complain about that, though my work/job has suffered as a result.

When my back gets sore out there, I think I do the same thing you do and swing too much with my arms, but I'm not 100% sure. I just know that nothing feels right in my swing when my back is really uncomfortable. Then I start thinking too much about what I am doing wrong and screw up my swing even further. My drive used to be very consistently straight. These back issues are new for me. Don't know what triggered it. Never had back discomfort like this before on the course, though have had some mid back stress from time to time from work that never seemed to affect my game. Actually never noticed it on the course. I must have tweaked something 3 or 4 weeks ago and now am playing too much to give it enough of a break. One thing is for sure and has really become apparent since my recent back issues. If you hit the ball reasonably straight and a decent distance, scoring well is much easier. Most of my bad holes of late are a direct result of poor drives.

Cold day. 42 degrees. Affected ball flight quite a bit. 10-20 leas yards on drives. Even so, drove the ball well all day. Really good round overall. 5 1-putts, 4 of which were over 15 feet. Couple 3-putts mostly bad luck, not poor putting. Played Callaway HotBite. Really checked up nicely on chips and pitches.

New Callaway FTi 3 Squarewood giving me problems from the fairway. From light rough, ok. Had better results w/Cally X 3W.
Lots of wet leaves on greens after rain last night. Difficult to get clean putts.
All of a sudden seemed to have picked up a draw in my drives, sometimes too much. Think I'm trying to control tempo too much on downswing.
Bump & run 7-iron chip in for bird from 10 yards off green. About 80' total.
Lots of leaves everywhere. Tough finding even perfectly hit balls. Took no penalty when ball was lost in leaves in fairway and 1st cut.
Need to carry leaf-blower in bag or hire a forecaddie!

Very wet, with light rain throughout round. Played lift, clean and place only when ball was obviously muddy. 50 degrees. Less ball travel than normal. Hit driver exceptionally straight. Hit nearly every fairway, albeit distance was typically 10 yards shorter than normal.(Likely due to temps.) 3W ruined an otherwise good round. Could not hit it very well at all today for some reason. Played same ball entire round.
